Reflections of the Performers: Ana, Caitlin & Fashan’s Book 1 violin recital

December 3, 2025 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

Fashan, Caitlin and Ana have been preparing their Book 1 Violin recital. Here are their reflections on their first-ever Book Recital experience!

~from Ana

The experience was ok. Sometimes it was hard to practice or it was ok.

I liked the joint lessons. They felt fast though.

It was interesting to see the others perform, and to perform.

It was fun and interesting.

~from Caitlin

I’m very proud and happy about what I did in today’s recital. Me, Fashan and Ana collaborated well with each other, as we looked at the leader, we didn’t blame each other because of playing the wrong note, and most importantly we played very neatly and the whole recital went as predicted.

I think I did pretty well in all the pieces. But most importantly, I think I did the best at: keep going when I played a note wrong and quickly fixing the mistake. For example, in Variation B, I played the harmony wrong and I stopped and after five notes, I kept going with the others. Also, I think I did the best in Minuete 1, because I have good dynamics and the tone was good.

Next time, I would want to improve my que, because in two pieces, I think my que wasn’t very strong and it didn’t show Ms. Sonomi the pace I want, and also how loud I want to whole piece to be. Plus, I will also want to improve my Variation D. I think I played a little slower than the normal pace, and because I was the leader my companions have to follow my pace. In addition, I always get mixed up by Variation D and Variation E.

~from Fashan

Overall I think that my effort for the recital was really good.

I practiced (almost all) or (all) every day and i really worked hard on my gavotte cues (even though i
missed one), and my gavotte fingers and everything i’m supposed to practice.

In the end, at the book recital, I am 10000% confident that my hard work payed off. Even though i was
tired i still practiced until i got it right. (૭ 。•̀ ᵕ •́。 )૭

I really liked everything that happened on that day, and even to this day i still feel the feeling of being
proud of myself to what came on that day.

I hope this same feeling will continue to boost me forward so i can complete this long LONG journey
ahead.

Reflections from the Performers: Ava & Lucia Book 1 Recital

April 24, 2024 By Diane Slone

Ava and Lucia recently presented their Book 1 recital! Here are their reflections on their experience

~from Ava

What I really liked about the performance is that in the joint classes is that I got to make friends with Lucia and I was prepared for the recital and it was half good…BUT STILL really good. I made a few mistakes BUT I kept playing and I did it! So I was really happy about the recital. PS Food was AMAZING especially the cheetos

~from Lucia

Hi, I’m Lucia. I came to a Suzuki music school in Hong Kong last year. On April 20 I played in a special music show for finishing school. I practiced a lot to get ready. My friend Ava and I played music together. I played a big violin called a cello, and Ava played the piano. We did a great job and people clapped and cheered for us. We were so happy! I want to say thank you to my teachers, Ms Danil, Ms Silvia, Ms Sonomi and Ms Marie Ann. And thank you to Ava and my mom and dad. I will keep trying my best!

Reflections from the Performers: Book 1 Violin Recital ~ Eric, Lincoln & Miles

November 3, 2020 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

For our October Book Recitals, we were very fortunate that the performers were able to play in person with Ms Sonomi! Each performer was also able to have a parent watch the recital live, as well as inviting family and friends to join on Zoom. Here are our performers’ thoughts about the recital:

~from Miles

During my recital I felt really nervous, more nervous than when I did on other performances on stage.  I was also much more careful and actually tried to get the perfect performance. Before it began I already memorised what I had to do .  Including good behaviour, what to do during the pieces and following the leader when we have to . It went through pretty smoothly. I was also leader for the twinkles.

~from Lincoln

I was very happy about the recital because many of my friends complimented and congratulated me. I was also very nervous and embarrassed about the recital. I was very embarrassed because of the uniform.

~from Eric

I felt that this was a great experience for me because this is my first Book Recital. I liked how sometimes you can make mistakes but no one can correct you. I actually left out a bit of Happy Farmer but no one said I was wrong. I feel very proud because even though I made a few mistakes, I think I did a great job. I was very happy when I saw that people on zoom had watched us play. I thought that no one would come to our recital!

Finally, I would like to give thanks to the following people:

Mrs.Diane, for helping us organise the recital.

Mrs.Yuko, for teaching me all the pieces I played in the recital.

My Mom, for encouraging me all the way through.

Mrs.Sonomi, for piano accompaniment with all of the performers.

Mrs.Lan, for the photography.

Miles and Lincoln, for performing with me. (their parents too!)

Finally, all the people who watched us perform on zoom.
