If you’ve never been to an international conference, or Suzuki Institute, they are a lot of fun.    When you go to an international conference or summer institute, you have the opportunity to:

  • work with teachers from around the world
  • have classes with students from around the world
  • make new friends from different places
  • explore new cultures and environments
  • attend performances by students and teachers
  • participate in performances with friends from around the world

…and too many other things to list.

2018 Oxfam Musical Marathon: Sign-up Today!

The sign-up deadline to participate in this year’s Oxfam Musical Marathon is this Thursday, 15 February!

Date:  Sunday, 22 April

Time:  10:30-12:00  >OR< 11:30-1:00  (TBC by Oxfam)

Location:   Kowloon Bay

Repertoire:   

  • Each student will play a short solo
  • After all of the solos are finished, there will be a play down.   Pieces TBD after the sign-ups are complete

Dress:

  • KSMA t-shirt
  • Black pants or skirt
  • Black dress shoes
  • Jeans, sport pants, leggings, jeggings, sneakers, trainers and other sport-type clothing are not appropriate for this event

Cost:   $400 per student minimum fundraising requirement

This is the 28th Anniversary of the Oxfam Musical Marathon.  The proceeds from this 2-day fundraising performance are used to help people around the world escape poverty.  The beneficiary from this year’s Musical Marathon is the Smallholder Farmers Development Fund.

The Oxfam Musical Marathon is a wonderful opportunity for our students to have the joy of performing while knowing that their musical performance is having a direct positive impact on the lives of other children.  How wonderful that our children can help other children have the opportunity to grow the food that will sustain their families!

Chamber and Orchestra Concert

Reflections from the Performers: Christopher and Margaret Book 1 violin recital

On Saturday, 20 January, Christopher and Margaret performed their Book 1 recital, assisted by Ms. Shoko.  Read on for stories of the recital in the performers’ own words!

 

from Christopher:

On Saturday, Margaret and I performed the violin. Originally, Ashley was also supposed to perform but she had a 39 degree fever. Margaret and I played Gossec Gavotte together and Twinkle Variations as a duet. I played six other solo songs. My teachers parents and grandparent watched too!
