Reflections from the Performer: Ayden’s Book 5 Piano Recital

June 8, 2022 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

At the beginning of the recital, my hands were clammy and I thought I was going to play badly, but then, I tried to stay calm by taking a few deep breaths and pretending like I was practising at home, I started feeling more confident and relaxed afterwards. Even so, I still forgot some repeats and made a few mistakes in the second half of the recital.  I felt a little nervous at that time. But when I looked at Ms Sonomi and my mom after the bow, their eyes are full of encouragement and made me feel much better.

After the recital, I felt relaxed and thrilled. I’ve learnt that it’s fine even if I play some mistakes as long as I tried my very best. My mom said I performed very well, and my dad, Hanson and Abby all agreed. Most importantly, I want to thank Ms Sonomi makes me understand I should play like a cuckoo bird sound for “Cuckoo”. I want to thank her for spending her private time giving me comments on my practice video. I also want to thank my previous teacher, Ms Shoko. She taught me the most difficult graduation piece up to now – Bach Gigue in 2 years ago through Skype. She made the mission possible online. Without Ms Sonomi and Ms Shoko, I couldn’t play those pieces musically at all. And I was so happy to have my whole family as my live audience and my best Suzuki friends, Hugo and Lincoln to join on zoom. I hope they all enjoyed my piano book 5 recital! Like Ms Sonomi said at the end of the recital, I can’t wait to have my next piano book recital!!

Reflections from the Performers: Book 1 Recital ~ Isabel and Chloe

November 22, 2021 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

Isabel and Chloe collaborated on their preparations, and performed their Book 1 Recital together…their very first recital! Here are their reflections on the experience.

from Chloe

I liked the Book – 1 Recital on Saturday, because I  played everything correctly. (Expect for the beginning of “Song of the Wind”, because I thought it was “Perpetual Motion”!)But there was something I  forgot to do – in the middle part of “Allegro”, I didn’t have eye contact with my partner Isabel… For the whole recital, at first I felt a little bit nervous, but after the first three pieces, I started to feel really confident.

from Isabel

I think that the recital had gone well in my opinion and at the recital I felt nervous and ecstatic and because this was my first recital ever and it had gone better than I had expected.

And I think when I practiced at home I felt more and more proud of myself after each practice and when I practiced I felt more and more confident about my solos and the other pieces, also I felt I was getting something out of each practice.

Studio Recitals

December 2, 2020 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

SMAHK was so fortunate to be able to have our studio recitals in person over the past several weeks. We all enjoyed having the opportunity to share music together in the same place! The audience was very enthusiastic, even though much smaller than usual due to distancing guidelines.

We hope you enjoy these photos as much as we all enjoyed the performances!

Grand Group Class Concert!

December 16, 2019 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

In spite of a location change requiring additional logistics and organisation from every student and family, SMAHK held its annual Grand Group Class Concert on Sunday, 8 December.

Due to the efforts of Ester Li (mother of Caleb and Chloe), we were able to have the concert at the Church of All Nations chapel at Hong Kong International School. We are very grateful to Ester, and to Pastor Joel and Megan from HKIS. The chapel was a very warm and inviting environment; all week, we have been receiving comments by email and in person from people who thoroughly enjoyed the concert venue.

Our theme for this year is “Beautiful Tone, Beautiful Heart”. There is no better time for us to be sharing our hearts with one another through our music. The concert was a wonderful example of this, with all of the group classes performing repertoire designed to share our tone and hearts together.

Thank you to all of the parents who helped with the set up before the concert, as well as to all of the students and parents for their preparations before the concert. What a wonderful spirit of community to take with us into the holiday season!
