Summer Suzuki!

February 28, 2019 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

There has been a lot of interest in our Suzuki Summer Parent Seminar from parents who could not attend. Here is the outline of the presentation.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/u6pnttlht7qapng/Summer%20Suzuki%202019.pdf?dl=0

Please talk with your teacher if you have specific questions! We’re excited that so many families are interested in having Summer Suzuki experiences outside of Hong Kong!

In talking with parents who have attended institutes previously, and are making decisions about whether to return to the same location, or to try something new, parents had the following to say:

“Our family has decided to return to the same institute that we went to in 2015. We’ve been there twice.  There are mainly three reasons why we have chosen this institute:

1. This institute has more higher book violin students (up to book 8) who will participate in orchestra and chamber.  This will give our student a chance to be inspired by them and learn from these more advanced students especially if they have a chance to have play in’s and chamber together.

2. We love the environment which is a school surrounded by beautiful mountains with swimming holes in a small town.  We are very familiar with the faculty now, and we feel like we are going home. Our older child has grown up with some kids first met 4 years ago and would very much like to play pick up soccer, picnic and play music with them.

3.  Our younger would be able to participate fully this year, and loved extra activities such as yoga and chorus in the past.”

“Our reasons for going to a different summer experience are to immerse our children in a new environment to meet, perform and learn from other Suzuki friends from all over the world. We anticipate the wonderful memories and friendships would provide them a new inspiration to encourage and motivate continued study.”

Intermezzo! – REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED!

February 23, 2016 By Diane Slone

Summer Send-Off Camp for all Instrsz_caroline_2015_3rumentalists!

We are excited to announce that from 14-23 August, 2016, Intermezzo! will bring together cello, piano, viola and violin students from KSMA and HKSMI, along with the faculties of both schools, and guest teachers from around the world.

Renowned Guest Faculty

In addition to the highly regarded faculties of both KSMA and HKSMI, we are excited to welcome guest artist faculty:

Caroline Fraser is returning for a second summer to work with KSMA piano students.   In addition, Miss Caroline is now authorised through the Asia Regional Suzuki Association to offer teacher training in our region.  We are thrilled that she is able to stay long enough to offer Unit 1 piano training for pianists who are interested in beginning their journey to becoming Suzuki Piano teachers!

Although this may be the first opportunity for most of our students to meet him in person, many of our cello students will already have “met” Richard Mooney through his books such as Position Pieces for Cello. We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Rick to Hong Kong to work with our cello students, as well as to offer Unit 1 cello teacher training.

Also a welcome and familiar face to students at both KSMA and HKSMI, Mark Mutter will be coming to work with our violin and viola students.   In addition, Mr. Mark will teach both our foundation unit  Where Love is Deep – open to all parents, teacher trainees, and other interested people – as well as teaching the Unit 1 training course to violinists and violists who would like to become Suzuki teachers.

A Variety of Classes

Over 5 days,  students will have a daily instrument-specific group class, as well as a class in Dalcroze Eurythmics.  In addition, depending upon age and level appropriateness, students may also participate in fiddling, note reading, musicianship, chamber music, orchestra and other classes.

Masterclasses, where 4 (Book 1), 3 (Books 2-4) or 2 (Books 5 & above) students and their parents come together for individual instruction,  are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Students registering for masterclasses will be grouped with the same student/parent teams for a one hour session on two separate days during the camp.

Highly Motivating

Intermezzo! will be a highly motivating way to end the summer and jump start families’ enthusiasm for the new school year!   Students and parents will enjoy spending time together, learning, making music, and having fun!

Parents may register to attend Where Love is Deep and for a special parent seminar, as well as attending classes with their children.

Student  Classes  Tuesday, 16 – Saturday, 20 August

On Tuesday through Friday, student classes will be be scheduled beginning after lunch.    Masterclasses for students who have not yet gone back to school will be scheduled in the early afternoon;  group classes for all students, and masterclasses for students who have returned to school, will be scheduled in the late afternoon and evening.

rsz_caroline_2015_1   Teacher Training Opportunities

In addition to the student workshop, we will be offering Teacher Training for individuals who are interested in learning how to be Suzuki teachers.   The required introductory class, Where Love is Deep (WLID), is open to all interested adults, not just instrumentalists wanting to pursue teacher training in Suzuki Talent Education.     We will offer Unit 1 training in cello, piano and violin for qualified musicians.

Training Dates:

  • Where Love is Deep                      Sunday, 14 August
  • Cello and Violin Unit 1                 Monday, 15 August – Monday, 22 August
  • Piano Unit 1                                   Wednesday, 17 August – Tuesday, 23 August

There are still spaces available for students.   Register today to get in on the fun!

Applications and auditions for cello, piano and violin Unit 1 training are required by the Interim Asia Region Suzuki Organization to be processed by 14 July.   Audition videos cannot be accepted after 1 July, 2016 in order to allow for processing.
