Spring 2016-2017 Birthday cutoff is: 4 February 2013
Builds on Previously Learned Knowledge
In Music Maker’s Studio, students will build upon previously learned knowledge from Music Play. They will rely upon previous exposures to tonalities and meters, and will continue to experience these concepts in a more formal and structured environment.
Singing
Tonally, students will sing in a variety of tonalities and echo patterns in all tonalities on a neutral syllable. They will improvise patterns using a neutral syllable in at least major and minor tonalities. Students will sing the resting tone in all tonalities and will learn to sing songs using rote song procedure. They will learn chord root melodies for a variety of tunes and will at least sing these in duet with the teacher, if not with each other. They will also sing songs that could be performed in a round.
Rhythm
Rhythmically, students will experience and perform songs and chants in a variety of meters. They will echo rhythm patterns on a neutral syllable and improvise rhythm patterns on a neutral syllable in at least duple and triple meters. Students will use their bodies to perform meter and demonstrate macro and micro beats in at least duple and triple meters.
Movement
Students will continue to experience music through movement emphasizing weight, space, flow, and time. Students will create movement to represent music they experience, and will utilize their movement to demonstrate musical concepts. Students will work toward the inclusion of instruments into the classroom such as unpitched percussion and possibly mallet percussion instruments.
