Ms. Yuko’s Studio Recital

November 12, 2018 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

On Saturday, 3 November, Ms. Yuko’s students participated in her annual studio recital.  This year’s recital was held at the China Congregational Church in Causeway Bay.  It was great to see the students’ growth since their last formal performance, and to see Ms. Yuko’s beginning students have their first performance experience.

Suzuki Summer Send-Off…Success!

June 11, 2018 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

Although we had to abandon our plans for performing outside at Stanley due to the uncertain weather, it was exciting to have so many students and parents join together for Saturday’s Suzuki Summer Send-Off!

Some of the pieces were just for a specific instrument group, so cellos, pianos, violas and violins all had their own turn to be “in the spotlight”.  We also had quite a few pieces where we all got to join together to play.

Since it turned into a “private” event for our own families, we used the Takarakuji Box and had “Lucky Dip” for deciding the order of the pieces.  It was fun to learn what students had already done their listening or practicing before leaving home on Saturday, as well as other things like which students can play a piece using only one hand?  (PIANO), who has been playing the violin the longest (Mel), how many of our students are new Twinkle students this year (lots of hands!), and how many students have parents who need to ask more than once when it’s time to practice!   (we hope that talking about it will let that change!)

After we finished playing, there was a pizza party for everyone, including treats that families had brought to share.

Our Summer Send-Off was such a fun way to be all together one more time before the end of the Term!

Piano Department Concert

June 5, 2018 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

On Saturday, 2 June, piano students were fortunate to have the opportunity to perform a recital on the stage of the Leo Arts Centre at Canadian International School.

Leo Arts Centre offers a special chance to play on a raised stage, in a fairly large hall on a good quality grand piano.  This type of environment is something we don’t get to enjoy very often!

Each of the students performed solos, and our most recent (Spring, 2018) piano Twinkle students also performed a Twinkle duet, starting them on the path toward becoming great collaborators!   At the end of the concert, Mr. Jason performed a piece for everyone which was written by a Korean composer.

Congratulations to all of the students and parents for all of their work together at home every day, and to Ms. Shoko and Mr. Jason for the week to week guidance they give each student/parent team.

Spring, 2018 Orchestra and Chamber Music Concert

June 5, 2018 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

On Saturday, 2 June, we gathered at the Leo Arts Centre at Canadian International School for our Spring Orchestra and Chamber Music Concert.

Vivace and Allegro orchestras both played, conducted by Mr. Daniel, and assisted by some of our advanced violinists:  Charlotte, Charmaine, and Mel.  In Vivace Orchestra, it was the first-ever time that piano students had joined the orchestra!  Evana, Ryan and Vivian served as the percussion section for one of the pieces, playing the sand blocks to mimic the sound of the trains.

Our seven chamber ensembles all performed the pieces on which they have been working this term with their coaches.  Mr. Daniel, Ms. Ryoko, Ms. Sonomi and Ms. Yuko have been very dedicated to helping students grow as chamber musicians, working to increase their comfort and skill at communicating with one another in order to be able to play more musically together.

It was a great end to the orchestra and chamber music term, and we are all looking forward to next year!

Congratulations to all of the students and coaches on all of their work throughout the term!
