Orchestra and Chamber Music Concert!

December 5, 2018 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

Our orchestra and Chamber groups gave their Fall term performance on Saturday, 1 December.  This was the first time the students had the opportunity to perform in a space that also allowed them to have the full performer experience of entering the stage from the green room rather than from the audience. It really made a difference in the experience of the performers, and for the audience too!

In the orchestra, Sander, Hermione and Naphat were great section leaders for the violins for this term.  For the Spring Term, the leaders will be as follows:

Concertmaster:  Roger

Principal 2nd violin: Oliver

Co-Principal 3rd violins:  Ella & Stacey

The leaders are chosen based on dedication, commitment, preparation and engagement on an ongoing basis.

Many thanks to Ms. Jane and Ms. Sandra for their work with the orchestra, and to Ms. Ryoko for all of her efforts with the chamber groups!

Ms. Jennifer and Ms. Sandra’s Studio Recital

December 5, 2018 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

Our last studio recital of the season was given by Ms. Sandra and Ms. Jennifer’s students.

There are so many young cello students, and it was great to see how well-prepared both the students and the parents were for the performance environment and experience!

Please enjoy the photos of the event.

Reflection from the Performer: Aslan and Stephen

December 5, 2018 By Diane Slone

Aslan and Stephen gave their Book 1 viola recital on 24 November.  Here are their thoughts.

by Aslan:

On the 24th of November 2018, Saturday I had my book 1 recital. The first song was Gossec Gavotte. Me and Stephen were playing good until Stephen forgot the repeat for the first part, but the rest of the song was good, The next song was me it was Etude it was good except the doubles, which was not that good. Then it was Stephen’s turn he played Minuet No. 2 it was good better than my Etude. Then after Minuet No. 2 it was my turn to play Go Tell Aunt Rhody. This song was the best one so far, because I had only slight mistakes not big ones. Then after Stephen’s next one it was me playing Minuet No. 3 it was not bad until I forgot a note which totally confused me. Again it was Stephen’s turn. Then it is more me again. I played May Song that wasn’t that bad. It was my second best one so far. The next was Allegro with Stephen. I first played the duet then normal. It was great because I never got something wrong, neither did him. Then it was my turn again. It was Andantino. It wasn’t all that bad. The next song I played was the Happy Farmer. I think it was the worst one of all because it had the most mistakes. In Long, Long Ago it was pretty good it wasn’t bad. Also French Folk Song was probably the best one out of all of them. And for Twinkles I played Melody for Variation C, E and Theme and that was the end of the recital.

by Stephen

I had been practicing for weeks then came the recital. I played Gossec Gavotte. I think I need a bit more work for remembering the repeats. I think Minuet 2 was my song that I played the best so far and my Twinkle song I was glad I remembered when I was playing the duet. In Allegro I think it was also quite good I just needed to remember the high 2s in Allegro. Allegretto I think I needed to make the bows a little more shorter. Minuet 1 I was glad I remembered to count 3 in the long bows.

Reflections from the Performers: Ashley and Ha Jin

November 29, 2018 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

On Saturday, 24 November, Ashley and Ha Jin gave their Book 1 viola recital.  Here are their thoughts:

My First Book Recital

by Ha Jin

If it was your first book recital would you be nervous or would you be cool? What if you were in between? On MY first book recital I was exactly that, nervous AND excited.

NERVOUS:
I was nervous because what if I made a really big mistake and embarrassed myself?

EXCITED:
I was also pretty excited since after lots of hard work of Book 1 it felt good to show my work.

AT THE RECITAL

At first I was nervous but as soon as I started playing my nervousness went away.  made some mistakes but it was okay.

I LOVED MY BOOK 1 RECITAL!

by Ashley

The day of the recital came. I was very worried that I would make a mistake. When I played my songs I made some mistakes but on the easy songs I had no problem. After it ended I was very glad. I could also eat some treats in the end.

THE END

Congratulations to Ashley, Ha Jin and their families on all of their hard work!

Ms Diane’s Studio Recital

November 12, 2018 By Suzuki Music Academy of Hong Kong

Ms Diane’s Studio Recital was on Saturday, 10 November at the Parsons Concert Hall in Times Square. There was quite a light-hearted start to the event before the students began their performances.  How wonderful to see the growth in each performer’s confidence since the last Studio Recital!
